Health and Safety Officer
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Health and Safety officer has the responsibility for ensuring that all aspects of the operation are being carried out safely and within the legal guidelines. The role encompasses the duty of care to all employees and the responsibility to ensure that any items or concerns identified through the completion of their duties are brought to the attention of the senior management.
Reporting to the Directors, the successful candidate will work with the management team coordinating and advising on all areas of EHS compliance at five factories in Dorset.
Key responsibilities will include
- The correct and timely completion of risk assessments
- Employee risk assessments where necessary
- Documentation on all Healthy and Safety training
- Accurate record keeping
- Research, implementation and / or support delivering relevant policies
- Owner of review process when incidents occur
- COSHH management
- Fire drills and reporting
- Emergency equipment test and service arrangements
- Managing First Aid and relevant activities
- Managing the fire exit logs and action plan
- Regular updates for management to enable action when required
- Periodic review of provisions for Health and Safety
- New project assessment and input
- New colleague induction including apprentices
- Working closely with the ISO 9001 administrator for the purpose of compliance
The ideal candidate will have
- NEBOSH certificate or equivalent/higher health and safety qualifications such as NEBOSH diploma, NVQ level 3 or 4
- IOSH memberships such as TechIOSH, GradIOSH or working towards CMIOSH or equivalent
- Experience and knowledge of HS management systems and compliance to ISO standards ideally ISO 14001 and ISO18001/ 45001
- Experience in auditing ISO standard management systems
- Ability to respond accurately and effectively to HS support enquiries
- Good time management and ability to work to tight deadlines
- Confident in all methods of communication
- Ability to develop and maintain professional competence
- Good influencing skills
Desirable qualities/experience of
- EHS experience within the manufacturing industries such as rubber or plastic injection moulding, chemical processing, engineering workshops or laboratory environments.
- Experience of hazardous waste classification, waste segregation and waste disposal.
